Brad Pitt To Star In New Poker Movie ‘Cogan’s Trade’

Over the years there have been quite a few poker movies made, from The Cincinnati Kid to Deal to everyone’s favorite poker flick, Rounders. Some of the poker films have been good, though most have been flops. But I’ve got high hopes for Cogan’s Trade, a new poker film currently in production, set to star Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt is going to play Jackie Cogan in the film, which is set to be released in 2010. According to IMDB, “Jackie Cogan is a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game.” The Hollywood Reporter reported that Brad Pitt will be reteaming with director Andrew Dominik on the film, who he worked with on The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. The Hollywood Reporter also writes that, though nothing is confirmed, there are rumors that other big names in the film could include Sam Rockwell, Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem.

If you are a poker enthusiast who likes movies with a whole lot of poker playing action, then I don’t know if this movie will be for you. The fact that it’s got so many big stars (including Brad Pitt) makes me think that the investigation will be the main plot point, with poker simply as a backdrop. However, nobody will know for sure until the movie is released in 2012.
